Sure Start Whitley Children's Centre
Welcome to the Sure Start Whitley Children’s Centre website. This website provides information about our team and the services we offer: Early Years (the nursery and preschool), the community development worker team and family activities, the family visiting team, the speech and language therapists, and the midwifery team.
What are Sure Start Children’s Centres?
Sure Start Children’s Centres bring together childcare, early education, health and family support services for families with children under 5 years old. We work with parents-to-be, parents/carers and children to promote the physical, intellectual and social development of babies and young children so that they can flourish at home and when they get to school.

The Government’s vision is that every child and young person should have the opportunity to fulfil their potential. Sure Start Whitley Children’s Centre is committed to working with families to support them to reach and maintain the 5 Every Child Matters outcomes.

Sure Start Children’s Centres bring together service providers – statutory providers like health and early education, as well as voluntary, private and community organisations and parents themselves, to provide integrated services for young children and their families based on what local children need and parents want.

Some of the services offered at Sure Start Whitley include:

Integrated early education and childcare – we have an Ofsted registered combined
day care nursery and preschool.

Support for families – we offer informal support through family activities as well as advice on parenting and access to specialist services for families.

Access to a wide range of activities that facilitate children’s development, enhance family relationships and enrich community development.

Child and family health services – within our team we have a family visiting team who offer support with parenting, children’s development and family health, speech
and language therapists and midwives.

Helping parents into work – we offer training and employment advice in partnership with New Directions and other organisations and provide a creche to enable parents to access training.
